The University of Nairobi (UNITID) and an International NGO (FHI360) are partnering in the implementation of a clinical trial titled: Levonorgestrel intrauterine system effects on hemoglobin and serum ferritin among anemic women in Kenya (LISA Trial). This is a 5-year clinical trial supported by a grant awarded by the US Government’s National Institute of Health (NIH) to evaluate the Levonorgestrel intrauterine system impact on hemoglobin among anemic women in Kenya. The project is being implemented in close collaboration with the Nairobi County’s Ministry of Health. The Co-Principal investigators are Dr Faith Thuita from the Dept of Public & Global Health, and Dr David Hubacher of FHI360. Co-investigators on the LISA trial from the Faculty of Health Sciences include Prof Julius Oyugi and Dr Onesmus Gachuno alongside Dr Njambi Njuguna, Dr Kavita Nanda and Laura Frye from FHI360. Dr George Mugendi is the study Pharmacist. The project will be launched by the Vice Chancellor, University of Nairobi on Monday Dec 11th, 2023.
