Overview
The master of science in medical statistics course aims at equipping students with the relevant training in theoretical and practical aspects of statistics and their applications in health research.

1. Demonstrate theoretical and practical statistical knowledge.
2. Apply techniques of mathematics,statistics and computing to health research.
3. Provide statistical expertise on public health issues.
4. Analyse and interpret medical data.
5. Develop research designs and engage in health research.
Structure
COURSE STRUCTURE AND DURATION
1. The master of science degree course in medical statistics shall cover a minimum duration of four (4) semesters and maximum duration of ten (10) semesters of fifteen (15) weeks each.
2. The course will consist of fifteen (15) core units ,one elective and a project which is equivalent to four (4) units.
3. A course unit shall be defined as consisting of 45 contact hours,comprising of lectures, tutorials and practical.
4. A candidate shall be required to take minimum of three (3) course units and a maximum of five (5) course units in semester.

MODE OF DELIVERY
The mode of learning for the Master's programme is full-time 9:00am to 4:00pm on Weekdays.
The blended learning mode of delivery will be through e-learning that combines face-to-face and online learning approaches. The programme shall be delivered through face-to-face lectures, group work, reading assignments, seminars, class discussions and fieldwork.
Face-to-Face Mode
Lectures, seminars, discussions, tutorials, guided practical experiments and demonstrations. clinical work, clinical teachings & tutorials, practical demonstrations, teachings in skills laboratory, on-call duties, clinical case discussions, journal clubs, case reports, seminars, multimedia resources. Most of the learning will be participatory.
Open, Distance and E-Learning Mode
Home and/or office-based media using a variety of self-instructional electronic and online self-study materials, such as; written self-instructional study modules, online interactive devices and self-tests, cloud-based content, videos of lectures mediated technical learning materials e.g. audiovisual and e- learning materials
Blended Learning Mode
A combination of face-to-face and online learning approaches.
Admission Requirements
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
The common regulations for the masters degree in the university of Nairobi shall apply.
candidates eligible for admission into the master of science degree in medical statistics shall have the following .
1.Holders of bachelors of medicine and bachelor of surgery ,bachelor of dental sciences,bachelor of pharmacy,bachelor of veterinary medicine and bachelor of nursing science from the university of Nairobi.
2. Holders of at least an upper second class bachelors degree in science ,engineering ,agriculture and arts based subjects with strong mathematical background from the university of Nairobi.
3.Holder of a lower second class degree in disciplines specified in (2) above plus postgraduate diploma at least two years of relevant research/work experience in their respective fields.
4. Holders of a pass degree in disciplines specified in (2) plus a post graduate diploma in te relevant disciplines with at least two years of research/work experience.
5. Holders of a pass degree in the areas specified in (2) plus at least five years of research/work experience.
6. Any other qualifications equivalent to the above from institution recognized by the senate of the university of Nairobi.
